Charter Bus Crash on Pennsylvania Interstate Leaves Three Dead
HARRISBURG, Pa. – A tragic accident occurred on Sunday night when a charter bus carrying up to 50 passengers crashed and collided with another vehicle on southbound Interstate 81 near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. State police confirmed that three bus passengers lost their lives in the wreck.
The accident took place around 11:50 p.m. during heavy rainfall. According to the crash report, the bus veered off the roadway, hit an embankment, and flipped onto its right side before colliding with a car that was stationary in the right lane of traffic.
Regrettably, the three bus passengers were declared dead at the scene, and several others sustained injuries, varying from minor to severe. At Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, 28 patients from the crash were admitted. Hospital spokesperson Scott Gilbert revealed that two people remained as inpatients, 16 were receiving treatment in the emergency department, and 10 had been discharged. Additionally, several other injured individuals were transported to a different medical facility.
As details about the accident continue to unfold, information regarding the identities of the deceased passengers has not yet been released by the coroner’s office in Dauphin County. Consequently, the names of the bus owner and driver have also not been disclosed to the public. State Trooper Megan Frazer stated that more information about the incident may not be made available until Tuesday.
In response to the scale of the tragedy, Trooper Frazer labeled it a mass casualty incident. Eight ambulances, as well as lifeline emergency response services, responded to the scene to aid the numerous injured victims.
