The publishing house Axel Springer has concluded agreement with OpenAI, which provides ChatGPT access to all media materials included in the media group. Thanks to this, chatbot users will be able to get a brief summary of articles from Business Insider, Politico, Bild, Welt and others.

As the two companies note, users of the chatbot will have access to paid materials from publications in the form of retellings. ChatGPT’s response will include links to full articles. A representative of the media holding told AFP that Axel Springer would receive money for providing the American firm with access to its content. The deal is concluded for several years and is not exclusive: the parties can sign similar agreements with other companies.

The Axel Springer-OpenAI deal was the first of its kind. Many other media companies, on the contrary, have previously denied OpenAI access to their materials. Among them are CNN, Bloomberg, The New York Times, Disney and The Guardian.

Roskomnadzor is trying to block the OpenAI search program in Russia, more about this in the Kommersant article “And he throws her away for a bot.”
