Manuel Chaves Nogales (Seville, 1897-London, 1944) maintained that the essence of journalism was “walking and telling”, that is, going to the places where the news was produced to narrate those stories to the readers. But Chaves not only walked on foot, but in the twenties and thirties of the last century, in a pioneering attitude, he took planes and trains, boats and automobiles to bear witness to events that were going to transform the world. He traveled as a correspondent to Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia, to France and England, he interviewed the leaders of that boiling Europe and the leaders of the Spanish Republic.
