Chavku Shankar has filed a case in the Madras High Court seeking action against Cuddalore Jail Superintendent Senthil Kumar for beating and harassing prisoners in the jail.

In the petition filed by Chavku Shankar, it has been mentioned that “when they were imprisoned in the Cuddalore jail in a contempt of court case, Jail Superintendent Senthilkumar assaulted nine prisoners who were in solitary confinement”. Chavku Shankar had requested the court to consider the petition and order to take action as he had submitted a petition to the Home Secretary requesting to transfer the 9 affected persons to public jail and to take action against Jail Superintendent Senthilkumar.

When the petition came up for hearing today before Justice G.Chandrasekaran, “What evidence is there for these allegations when periodic inspections are conducted in jails by the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Commission and the appointed District Judges or Magistrates?” He questioned.

At that time, the government said, “The case has been filed by a third party and not by the victims. A Public Interest Litigation can be filed in connection with this issue.
