As announced last Friday by the Chechen Minister of Culture, Musa Dadayev, from now on, new musical creations will no longer have to be “too slow” or “too fast”, with the aim of adapting to the “mentality and musical rhythm” of this republic of Russia.
“Cultural heritage of the Chechen people”
“All musical, vocal and choreographic compositions” must correspond to “a tempo ranging between 80 and 116 beats per minute (BPM),” the Russian news agency reported. Tassreports the French newspaper The Parisian. With this announcement, Western musical styles, such as reggae, techno, or even pop, will be affected.
The idea with this measure is to transmit “to the people and our children the future of the cultural heritage of the Chechen people,” Dadayev said. “It is unacceptable to borrow the musical culture of other peoples,” he added during the meeting between the Ministry of the Republic and local and regional artists, according to the Moscow Times.
Until June 1 to rewrite
Musicians have until June 1 to rewrite their songs that do not meet the aforementioned criteria. Otherwise, they risk not being allowed to touch it in public.
