Hepatitis is inflammation that occurs in the liver due to various causes, such as excessive consumption of alcohol and other drugs, inappropriate use of some medicines and contamination by viruses.

Viral hepatitis are infections that for long periods of time remain silent, which causes many people to become infected with the causative viruses, but do not know it.

Considered a public health problem in Brazil and worldwide, infections caused by viral hepatitis are the main causes of chronic liver disease, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Of the five types of viral hepatitis, types B and C cause the most illness and death.

For this reason, it is very important to carry out rapid tests in asymptomatic people in order to establish an early diagnosis of viral hepatitis, with the aim of reducing morbidity and mortality.

The Student Health Care Division (Diase/Propae) produced the Epidemiological Bulletin on Viral Hepatitis to inform the university community about the distribution of these infections in Brazil and in Unilab’s partner countries. You can check the Epidemiological Bulletin here.

Aiming to promote the early screening of viral hepatitis and the prevention of other diseases, the Center for Integral Health Care (CAIS) will carry out, with the support of Diase/Propae, the Preventive Health Action on 08/16/2023 at Campus Auroras, between 8 am and 4 pm. Among other services, rapid tests for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV and Syphilis will be available. Testing will take place free of charge and results will be made available within 30 minutes.

The Unified Health System (SUS), through the National Immunization Program (PNI), provides the vaccine against hepatitis A for all children from 1 year and 6 months of age, as well as an immunization schedule for hepatitis B for children, adults and seniors.

On 8/16/23, in the Preventive Health Action, vaccines will also be available. Bring your card to check your vaccination status with the team.

Participate.

Screening for viral hepatitis, HIV and syphilis is also available at SUS Basic Units. In the municipality of Redenção, testing takes place daily, from Monday to Friday, in the Basic Health Units (health posts) in the municipality. Consult Diase/Propae or the Health Department of the municipality where you live for more information.

Diase/Propae makes educational materials available to the university community on important aspects of health promotion. Check it out here:
