O new maximum readjustment of 9.63% announced in health plans by ANS (National Supplementary Health Agency), promoted this Monday (12), can affect about 8 million people. The price variation is valid from the first day of May of this year until the last day of April (30) of the next year, in 2024.
The amounts referring to the months of May and June will be added to the amount paid in the following two months, in July and August, including the updated amount. As found the Idec (Brazilian Institute of Consumer Defense), the adjustment reported by the ANS is about 67% higher than the amount of inflation last year. In note, Paulo Rebellowho serves as CEO of the National Supplementary Health Agency, said:
“The readjustment determined by the National Supplementary Health Agency for the year 2023 is a consequence of the variation in assistance expenses incurred in 2022 compared to the assistance expenses of 2021 for subscribers of individual and family health plans”, he declared.

According to the ANS, the maximum readjustment of 9.63% will be directed to health plans, including plans for a person and family members in a normalized way, including plans that were acquired from the beginning of 1999, in January and contracts that were adequate for the new law, according to law number 9.656/98.
For corporate or collective plans, the new values are negotiated exclusively with plan agents. The ANS released the percentage of people in this condition, close to 16%, with approximately 8 million people with regulated individual or family plans, out of a total of 50.6 million who have health insurance in Brazil.

When does the new value take effect?
According to the National Supplementary Health Agency, the new value begins to be included by the agency in the month that the plan is acquired. In view of this, plans prior to that announced promoted by the agency will have an additional amount in the following months to compensate for non-payment of the new readjustment:
“For contracts acquired in the months of May, June and July, the charge can be made retroactively referring to these months“, found the ANS.
