Minister Jeannette Jara explained on TVN’s Estado Nacional that the rule establishes a “gradual approach to limit the effect on the economy, employment and SMEs, which considered an initial increase, from 410 thousand to 440 thousand pesos, on May 1, 2023; then, to 460 thousand pesos, on September 1, 2023; and, finally, to 500 thousand pesos, effective from July 1, 2024.

“It also provides that on January 1, 2025, the basic salary will be adjusted according to the CPI of the last six months,” he added.

Eric Campos, general secretary of the CUT, stressed that it is “a very important milestone, given that it is the most significant increase in recent years, but still insufficient in terms of a goal that we have to set ourselves as a society, which is that the minimum wage covers at least the needs of a family so as not to be below the poverty line.”
