by time news

This Sunday, Chelsea secured their place in the FA Cup semi-finals by beating Leicester City 4-2 at Stamford Bridge. The London club took the lead and saw their opponents draw, but they had a decisive performance from young Cole Palmer again to guarantee qualification.

Chelsea joins Manchester City and Coventry City, already confirmed in the next stage of the competition. The clashes will be decided through a draw.

Pochettino’s team will only return to the pitch on the 30th of this month, for the 29th round of the English Championship, against Burnley, at 12pm (Brasília time), at Stamford Bridge. Leicester, a day earlier, faces Bristol City, at 9:30 am, in the 38th round of the English second division, at Ashton Gate Stadium.

Match full of emotions

In the 24th minute, referee Andy Madley signaled a maximum penalty for the home team, after Sterling was brought down in the penalty area before finishing. The attacker himself took the charge and wasted the chance. Stolarczyk managed to save with his knee.

Chelsea’s advantage increased in stoppage time of the first half, in the 46th minute. Cucurella took a throw-in to Mudrik, who passed it to Sterling. The number 7 advanced to the penalty area and crossed back, so Cole Palmer appeared to complete it in the corner.

Leicester scored at the beginning of the second half, in the 5th minute. After receiving a throw-in in the defensive sector, Disasi, Chelsea’s defender, found himself under pressure from the opposing striker and shot backwards towards his goalkeeper. The defender didn’t realize that the archer was ahead, and the ball fell into the goal.

The visitors equalized in the 17th minute. Stephy Mavididi received an assist from Kiernan and dribbled past Gusto, then hit a beautiful shot into Sanchez’s left corner. In the 28th minute, Leicester defender Callum Doyle was sent off for fouling Nicolas Jackson.

Chelsea’s relief goal came only in stoppage time, in the 47th minute. Carney Chukwuemeka invaded the area, triangulated with Cole Palmer and touched the goalkeeper with his right leg.

Three minutes later, to close the score, at 50, Gusto found Madueke, who crossed the line and hit an undefendable ball in the right corner.
