Chelsea Football Club is reportedly on the verge of securing a deal to sign Tyler Adams, the talented midfielder of Leeds United. According to The Athletic, Chelsea is prepared to intensify their pursuit of the USMNT international by activating the release clause in his contract, rumored to be around £20 million ($25.5 million).

Initial interest in Adams from Chelsea prompted them to explore the possibility of signing him, especially considering his contractual situation at Leeds. Personal terms between the club and the 24-year-old midfielder are not expected to pose any issues.

Despite having primarily pursued Brighton & Hove Albion’s wonderkid Moises Caicedo, Chelsea has been unsuccessful in their attempts to secure his services. With four failed offers, the club is set to make another bid and has also presented a £48 million offer for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia this week.

Adams, who had previously attracted the attention of Aston Villa, joined Leeds from RB Leipzig last summer. Although he played a crucial role in the team, featuring 24 times, Leeds unfortunately faced relegation to the Championship.

Adams had endured a setback due to a hamstring injury in March, preventing him from participating in Leeds’ final games and the USMNT’s Nations League fixtures in June. Leeds manager Daniel Farke provided an update on Adams’ injury, expressing hope for his return. Farke stated, “Tyler isn’t too far from returning to training. Hopefully, Tyler can return earlier. He was out for such a long time and he needs training.”

Adams was recently in attendance at Elland Road as Leeds faced Cardiff City in their opening Championship fixture, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Chelsea has already witnessed the departure of several midfielders from their first-team squad this summer, including Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, and Mason Mount. While Lesley Ugochukwu has been the only addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, there is a possibility that the teenage Frenchman could be loaned out to Chelsea’s partner club, Strasbourg. Another name to note is Andrey Santos, who was signed from Vasco de Gama in January and has been featuring regularly for Chelsea during preseason after spending the latter part of the previous season back on loan with his former club.

As Chelsea continues to strengthen its squad, the signing of Tyler Adams would be a welcomed addition. The club looks to secure an agreement with the midfielder in the coming days, further strengthening their midfield options for the upcoming season.
