Chemical fertilizer to be provided to rain-affected farmers

by time news

The government has decided to provide chemical fertilizers to farmers affected by the recent heavy rains.

The Ministry of Agriculture has said that the remaining chemical fertilizers that are yet to be used in the country will be used for this purpose.

The Ministry of Agriculture has learned that due to the recent heavy rains, organic fertilizers used in vegetable and fruit farmers’ farms in the suburbs of Nuwara Eliya, Badulla and Bandarawela have been washed away.

Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage has also accepted the position, according to an English media report. “Vegetable prices will rise sharply unless urgent action is taken,” the agriculture minister said.

The Minister also directed to prepare a report on chemical fertilizers and agro chemicals owned by fertilizer import companies.
