Chief Minister Stalin Inaugurates New Bus Station in Chennai

Chennai’s traffic congestion may soon see some relief as Chief Minister Stalin inaugurated the new Clambakkam bus station the day before yesterday. The new station is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the traffic woes in the city. In addition to the inauguration, the work of shifting buses traveling to out-of-town destinations to Klambach has also begun.

Government Rapid Transport Corporation buses traveling to southern districts have started operations from Klambach, according to officials. This move is expected to streamline the traffic in Chennai and reduce travel time for commuters.

In a statement, officials confirmed that all buses of the Government Rapid Transport Corporation will now operate from Klambach. Yesterday, Rapid Transport Corporation buses coming to Chennai from outlying areas dropped passengers at Klambach, signaling the official start of operations at the new station.

The move is not limited to the Rapid Transport Corporation, as officials also announced that buses plying on the Trichy National Highway, Bengaluru Highway, and East Coast Road will be operated from Klambach. Chennai city buses have also been running from Klambach to all parts of the city since yesterday morning, with additional buses being ordered to accommodate the shift.

In an effort to provide a smooth transition for commuters, Municipal Transport Corporation announced that 270 buses will be operated to Koyambedu Bus Stand, with a travel time of just five minutes from Klambach. Additionally, a bus will run to Tambaram every two minutes and a bus to Guindy every three minutes, bringing the total number of additional city buses to 1,691.

Furthermore, officials confirmed that all intercity buses will operate from Klambach only after the festival of Pongal. However, Omni buses will continue to ply from Coimbatore to Klambach until Pongal due to prior bookings. The extra amount for travelers affected by the move will be refunded, officials assured.

The shift of Government Rapid Transport Corporation buses to Klambach is expected to reduce the travel distance of government express buses by 20 kilometers. Buses traveling to southern districts via Trichy are now being operated from Klambach. Travelers who have already booked Rapid Transport Corporation buses to board from Chennai Koyambedu, Thambaram, and Perungalathur have been sent text messages asking them to come directly to Klambach. Officials also assured that the difference amount for those who booked online from Koyambedu to Klambakkam will be refunded into their bank account.

The move is expected to bring relief to commuters and reduce traffic congestion in Chennai, providing a more efficient and convenient transportation system for residents and visitors alike.
