CHENNAI: In a shocking announcement, the temperature in Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, has plummeted to a bone-chilling 4 degrees Celsius. The Chennai Meteorological Department issued a press release yesterday, highlighting the extreme weather conditions in the region.

While the cold wave sweeps over Puducherry, other parts of the state have been experiencing a different weather phenomenon. The maximum rainfall of 6 cm was recorded in Mettupatti, located in the Madurai district. Meanwhile, Periyapatti received 5 cm of rainfall, followed by Kummidipoondi, Cholavaram, MRC, and Nagar with 3 cm each. Viraganur, Mayanur, Chennai Nungambakkam, Sengunram, Chennai Parimuna, Oothukottai, Kallikudi, Kodaikanal, Beraiyur, Manali, and Nadrampalli received 2 cm and 1 cm of rain, respectively.

According to the meteorological department, a sub-tropical circulation is prevailing over parts of Tamil Nadu, leading to moderate rainfall in some areas. The forecast suggests that Tamil Nadu and Puducherry can expect moderate rain today.

Furthermore, some places in the region recorded temperatures a staggering 4 degrees Celsius above the normal range, adding to the weather anomaly.

In Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, moderate rain has been reported. The maximum temperature soared to 37 degrees Celsius, which is undoubtedly a significant contrast to Puducherry’s frigid temperatures. Additionally, the meteorological department predicts that cyclonic winds, with a speed of 55 kmph, will blow over the South East Bay of Bengal.

Residents and visitors in Puducherry are advised to take necessary precautions to combat the extreme cold weather. Similarly, people in Chennai are encouraged to stay protected during the moderate rain and to be aware of the strong winds forecasted for the coastal region.

While the people of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry experience this unpredictable weather, meteorological experts continue to monitor and analyze the sub-tropical circulation to provide accurate forecasts and keep the public informed about any potential weather changes.
