Chennai: Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged in Chennai today (Jan. 15), petrol was sold at Rs 102.63 and diesel at Rs 94.24.
The public sector oil companies fix the domestic prices of petrol and diesel on a daily basis as per the international market conditions. In Tamil Nadu, on November 3, 2021, one liter of petrol was sold at Rs 110.85 and diesel at Rs 102.59. This was the highest selling price of petrol and diesel.
After the assembly elections in five states including UP, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged. As the elections in these states ended, due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, crude oil prices rose in the international market. In Chennai till May 21, petrol prices remained unchanged at Rs 110.85 and diesel at Rs 100.94.
In this case, on May 21, 2022, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman suddenly made an announcement. He announced that the central government will reduce the excise duty on petrol by Rs 9 per liter and the excise duty on diesel by Rs 7.50 per litre.
Following this, petrol was sold in Chennai by Rs.8.22 paise to Rs.102.63 and diesel by Rs.6.70 paise to Rs.94.24. Today, for the 604th day, petrol is selling at Rs.102.63 and diesel at Rs.94.24 without any change.
