Mostafizur Rahman’s departure from this season of IPL is imminent. After playing only two matches, he will fly to the country. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has called him ahead of the national team’s Zimbabwe series. So he has to return to the country after completing the IPL lessons.
Chennai Super Kings released a video about the departed Mustafiz on Thursday. The video, published on their verified Facebook page, described Mustafiz as the ‘Bangla Lion’ and told his story.
Mostafiz’s childhood, becoming a cricketer, likes, playing in IPL, playing for Chennai have been highlighted in his speech.
Reminiscing about his childhood there, Fiz said, ‘My village is Satkhira Kaliganj. We are four brothers. Almost all of us are cricket crazy. The older brothers used to play in the area. I was young at that time. We used to bowl to those who came on rent from outside. There was an older brother. He told my brother that your younger brother bowls well. From there slowly come to my cricket.
He said about his cutter, ‘It can actually be called natural. No one taught me this, to cut. At one time I was bowling nets in the national team. Vijay Bhai was saying that you don’t kill slower? I used to bowl very hard then. After he said I was trying the slower ball normally. From then on I saw that the ball was spinning well. Many were out at a slower pace then. From there the cutting ball starts for me.’
Reminiscing about being called up to the Chennai team in the auction, Fiz said, ‘It was my first time in the Chennai team. Ever since I started playing in IPL in 2016, it was my dream to play in Chennai. When I got the call, I couldn’t sleep that night. Such was the situation.’
‘I had a game the next day. I was in New Zealand. At night I slept like an hour. Then I see that only messages are coming. The auction started at 1pm New Zealand time. I saw that the message was coming. Everyone was saying that I was selected in the Chennai team.’
Mostafiz said about the environment of the dressing room in Chennai and how to use the small things, ‘The environment of the national team is friendly, I did not feel easy after coming here. This is a very big aspect. Mahi Bhai (Dhoni) was talking about some fielding setups, Bravo was talking about some fielding setups towards the death overs. I find these little things useful.’
He said about Dhoni, ‘Most of the talk with him is about bowling. There is more talk in the field. There is less talk outside. What happens if you do something, Mahi Bhai comes and tells me.’
Appreciating IPL, the cutter master said, ‘IPL has more stars than any other tournament, from all countries. If I succeed here it will be easier to succeed elsewhere, I think.’
Speaking about feeling better, Fitz said, ‘Being more comfortable works when I’m playing against big teams. And if you perform against big teams then the highlights are more. Naturally I always like to play against big teams. There’s a lot of audience, everything.’
Claiming to watch less of the game, Fizz said, ‘I always watch the game a little less. I like to play, but I rarely watch games. Especially if we watch the T20 game then we look at the death overs. What do the batsmen do, where are they hitting? These are a little more. Apart from that, it is very rare to complete the entire 40 overs.’
He said about Mustafiz before and now, ‘Actually it was a kind of life, now it is a kind of life. Earlier, when I was not a cricketer, I could go wherever I wanted. can’t go now It’s hard to go. Everyone goes to take pictures. It’s not easy anymore.’
At the end, this star pacer said, ‘Any sport has no good end. What goes back is gone. I will not get it back. Like I got this wicket in this match, it. I can’t just sit there thinking about it. I have more games ahead of me. What can I do better? That’s what I always think.’
