Dhoni describes the difficulties Jadeja faced when he was the captain of the CSK team.
CSK won the match against Sunrisers Pune by 13 runs. Batting first, CSK scored 202 for 2 in 20 overs. Rudraj scored 99 and Conway scored 85. Both scored 182 for the first wicket in 17.5 overs. The Sunrisers then went on to score 189 for 6 in 20 overs. Williamson 47, Nicholas Puran 64 not out. Mukesh Chaudhary took 4 wickets. Rudraj was chosen as the hero of the match.
Jadeja has been appointed as the new captain of the CSK team for the IPL 2022 tournament. The decision was taken after Dhoni stepped down as captain. But Jadeja abruptly stepped down as captain as the CSK team won only 2 of the first 8 matches and his batting was poor. Following this, Dhoni re-assumed the captaincy.
Speaking at the awards ceremony at the end of yesterday’s match, Dhoni said:
Jadeja knew last year that he would be appointed captain. So he had time to prepare. He was given some information in the first two games. I then gave him the right to decide. Because someone was the captain after the match, he should not think I was going to toss (only). Little by little change was brought about. I take care of this and look at where the fielding should stand in the first two games. After that I said it was up to you to decide. That is how we can learn what leadership is. It would not be helpful to become a captain if all was being said and done. In the domain you have to make important decisions. Then you have to accept responsibility for it.
After you become captain you have to take care of many things including your game. Your brain is always working. It is not easy to control. That’s the strong part. It never stops when you are wondering who to pick on the team and when to use them. Thus the individual cannot rest. The brain is thinking even though it wants to sleep with its eyes closed. I think the burden of being the captain when Jadeja goes to bat and prepares for it has affected his playing ability. I would love to have a batter, fielder, bowler like Jadeja on my team. Even if he plays well without the captaincy, that is what the team needs. We also miss a good fielder. Still said another thing that we miss 16, 17 catches.
