Following a complaint that there was a cockroach in the popular restaurant biryani, the food safety officer ordered the food to be closed for 3 days.
The couple who came to dine at the Buhari restaurant on the old Mahabalipuram Road, Okkiyam Durappakkam in Chennai ordered biryani and ate it. They were shocked to find cockroaches in it and complained to the Food Safety Department.
Following this, the officer arrived at the scene and conducted a search at Sukumar’s restaurant. Then in the kitchen, without following any rules, he saw food being cooked in an unhygienic manner and cockroaches roaming in the cooking area.
He subsequently ordered the restaurant to close for 3 days based on the complaint. He also ordered the restaurant to reopen only after confirming the complaint within three days and confirming it to food safety officials and imposing a fine of Rs 5,000.
