Cheongdo-gun has successfully completed the “1st Abandoned Dog Happy Change.” Cheongdo-gun (Governor Kim Ha-su) announced that the “1st Cheongdo-gun Abandoned Dog Happy Change,” an event to improve awareness of abandoned dogs held at Cheongdo Shinhwarang Pungryu Village on Saturday the 17th, has concluded with enthusiastic responses from over 200 participants from all over the country.

The first Abandoned Dog Happy Change event was planned to commemorate World Abandoned Animal Day, which falls on the third week of August every year, to reflect on the rapidly increasing number of abandoned animals during the summer vacation season and to raise awareness of respect for the lives of abandoned dogs and their owners.

This event was held with the support of the budget of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, and in cooperation with the Cheongdo-gun DAS Youth Culture and Arts Volunteer Group, the entire event program was prepared together and a campaign event was promoted to change awareness about abandoned dogs.

The detailed programs included: △Random date with abandoned dogs (Matching Day), △Education on adoption procedures and pet etiquette for abandoned dogs, △Exhibition of stories and works of abandoned dog adoptive families, △Abandoned dog family welcoming event (Flower Makeover Project), and △Cheongdo-gun Abandoned Dog Volunteer Group founding ceremony and award ceremony.

Among the participants that day, there were foreign participants and those who flew in from Jeju Island, which drew attention. In particular, out of the 20 teams that had pre-registered, 7 teams adopted abandoned dogs on site and shared the joy of welcoming new families.

One family that welcomed a new member said, “We are well aware that living with a companion dog requires a lot of responsibility. Through this event, we hope to overcome our prejudice against abandoned dogs and change our perceptions so that we can adopt them as new family members, making our family warmer and richer than before.”

It is expected that this event will serve as an opportunity to improve awareness of abandoned dogs and spread adoption culture nationwide.

Kim Ha-su, the governor of Cheongdo County, said, “In the future, as we approach the era of 10 million pet owners, we will do our best to create various pet-friendly environments, such as creating small pet parks, to revitalize the local economy and spread the pet adoption culture through the influx of pet owners.”
