Cheongdo-gun (Governor Kim Ha-su) announced on the 8th that the ‘Cheonghwa-ro central downtown sign improvement project’ was finally selected in the Ministry of Public Administration and Security contest.
This sign improvement project reflects the demand for sign environment improvement in the central city of Cheongdo, and was carried out in particular due to many requests from commercial business owners.
An urban area with a large floating population and an active commercial district centered on Cheonghwa-ro, where Cheongdo Station and the intercity bus terminal are located, will be selected as the project target and will be promoted as an overall urban environment improvement project by linking it with the Cheongdo Sangsangmaru project and the Cheongdo Market commercial street.
This sign improvement project, including the section where the cable undergrounding project was completed in 2020, is expected to greatly improve the aesthetics of the city.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Cheongdo is visited by 320,000 quarterly residents, which ranks 7th in the country and 1st in Gyeongbuk Province.
If the environment around Cheongdo Station and the intercity bus terminal is improved through this signboard maintenance, Cheongdo’s tourism attractiveness is expected to increase further.
In particular, as the need to improve the city’s aesthetics and maintain signage has been consistently raised for the city’s growth as a hub city for culture, arts, and tourism, this project is an important achievement that reflects the needs of the past.
The project is scheduled to be implemented in 2025, and the project section extends approximately 740m from the Cheongdo Intersection to Cheongdo Station. The target for improvement is 108 businesses, which include various types of signs such as wall type, protruding type, pillar type, and window type.
In the process of carrying out the project, Cheongdo-gun had time to communicate and exchange opinions with commercial owners through the first and second resident briefing sessions, and formed a resident council to further facilitate communication and strengthen cooperation among residents.
Cheongdo-gun Mayor Kim Ha-soo said, “Through this sign improvement project, we will greatly improve the urban aesthetics of Cheongdo-gun and do our best to promote the project with the attitude of laying the foundation for growth into a culture, arts and tourism hub city, and attract tourists through the project.” “We will do our best to revitalize the local economy.”
