What strategies can agricultural technology centers use to enhance social media engagement with local farmers?
Interview between Time.news Editor (T) and Seo Jeom-sook (S), Head of the Rural Technology Support Department at Cheongdo-gun Agricultural Technology Center
T: Good day, Seo Jeom-sook. Congratulations on winning the 2024 Rural Promotion Excellent Social Media Excellence Award! That’s a remarkable achievement for the Cheongdo-gun Agricultural Technology Center. Can you share what went into this success?
S: Thank you! We’re thrilled about the recognition. Our success stems from our commitment to engage with farmers and disseminate valuable information through social media. We launched our Instagram account in 2020 and have since posted around 890 pieces of content that focus on farming techniques, agricultural safety, and local development projects.
T: That’s quite a significant volume of content. How do you determine the types of information that are most beneficial for local farmers?
S: We prioritize topics based on feedback from the farming community and trends in agricultural best practices. Our content includes timely farming techniques and educational resources. We also engage our audience through interactive posts, which helps us understand their needs more effectively.
T: It sounds like you are fostering a very interactive community. Can you tell us more about the nature of the communication between your team and the farmers?
S: Absolutely. We aim for two-way communication. From live Q&A sessions to target-specific posts addressing common farming challenges, we encourage farmers to participate actively. Their input not only enriches our content but also strengthens the community around Cheongdo-gun agriculture.
T: Given the rapid technological changes in agriculture, how important do you think social media is for rural development?
S: Social media is crucial in bridging the information gap and empowering farmers. It provides them with instant access to knowledge and resources that can significantly enhance their productivity. Our goal is to keep the local farming community informed and competitive in an ever-evolving industry.
T: You mentioned plans to continue expanding your social media usage. What future initiatives are you considering to further enhance communication with farmers?
S: We’re looking into collaborating with local farmers for content creation. We want to highlight their stories and successes, not just our projects. Additionally, we’re exploring more multimedia content, like tutorial videos and live demonstrations, to reach a broader audience.
T: That sounds exciting! To wrap up, can you share what this award means for your team and for the future of agriculture in Cheongdo-gun?
S: Winning this award validates our ongoing efforts and motivates us to continue improving. It ensures us that we are on the right track in using social media as a tool for rural development. We aim to strengthen our competitiveness and keep advancing local agriculture in Cheongdo-gun, making it a model for others to follow.
T: Thank you, Seo Jeom-sook, for sharing your insights. It’s inspiring to see the positive impact of social media on agriculture. We look forward to seeing how Cheongdo-gun continues to evolve!
