by time news

Kyiv: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, has said it has lost contact with the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which has been taken over by Russian forces. IAEA President Rafael Grossi has announced that communications from Chernobyl have stopped. Although the plant has been closed since the 1986 nuclear disaster, it still has more than 200 employees, including technicians and guards. The information is that their lives are in danger. On the 24th of last month, Russia took control of the city of Chernobyl and the nuclear power plant. The Ukrainian government’s nuclear agency has warned of possible radiation from the plant. The current crisis is the inability to cool nuclear fuel because the power supply to the area has been cut off. The Ukrainian nuclear agency said it had not been able to restore power to the plant because the area was under Russian control.
