Cherry has announced a second version of its popular mechanical switches, which are now the MX2A. There are changes to all elements of their design, with the end result being that they run better and are quieter with their new slip ring lubrication. Now they are rated with a lifespan of one hundred million keystrokes, double that of the MX, and the typing experience promises to be better.

The changes also include changes to the geometry of the switch shaft —according to Cherry it improves stability, consistency between clicks and precision—, the spring used, or the box itself to which the switch is attached. The company details it in the following video.

All the colors The most common MX will have an MX2A version —red, silver, black and brown, leave out the blue ones because they are not so common—, as well as versions with and without RGB. Compatibility with the current keys is maintained, so in many keyboards it will be a matter of buying them separately -if you sell them-, removing some and putting these new ones.

The first keyboard to use them is the XTRFY K5V2XTRFY being the former Swedish peripherals company that is now Cherry’s gamer brand. It is a compact keyboard, 360 mm × 172 mm × 44 mm, weighing 841 g, and will only be available with the red MX2As, which are linear, with per-key configurable RGB lighting.

The keyboard includes cursors and macro keys, being of the 65% type, with a metal plate, double layer of noise-absorbing foam and with the stabilizers mounted on the PCB which are lubricated. There is a detachable 2m cable with USB Type-A and USB Type-C connectors.

Its price is 159 euros and will be available in black and white.
