The Battle Points Sheraton Resort, East Coast Road, Mamallapuram is hosting the Chess Olympiad from today to August 10. While 188 teams from 187 countries were announced to participate in the open division of the series, Pakistan has suddenly withdrawn from the Chess Olympiad. Thus, players from 186 countries participate in the Chess Olympiad series.
Russia and China, who dominate the game of chess, did not participate this time. On the other hand, 3 teams in the open category and 3 teams in the women’s category will be represented by a total of 30 people in 6 teams. The Olympiad is held in a Swiss league format with 11 rounds. The first round of matches starts today. India is going to play the first match for the general category. Similarly, the United States is set to play its first women’s tournament. It has been announced that the matches will be held daily from 3 pm onwards.
In this case, three layers of security have been placed around the star hotel where the Chess Olympiad will be held. Around the venue of the chess tournament, 3,000 policemen are engaged in 24-hour rotation in areas including Pooncheri, Old Mamallapuram Road and East Coast Road.

In an interview to the media, Kanchi Charaka DIG Sathyapriya said, “The 44th International Chess Olympiad is being held in Mamallapuram, so police from various districts in Tamil Nadu have arrived for security.
Three layers of police are on security duty as the 44th International Chess Championship is being held in Mamallapuram. Any person visiting to participate in the chess tournament will be allowed only if they have an ID card. said.
