The Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Tamil Nadu and the All India Chess Federation (AICF) was signed on 14.05.2022 at the General Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Stalin regarding the holding of the tournament in Tamil Nadu.
As per the order of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Stalin, a special committee called the Chennai Chess Olympiad Committee (COCO) has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu to make the Olympics a success.
In addition, the Managing Director of the National Welfare Board has been appointed as the Special Officer to coordinate the competition and preparations are underway. A high-level committee of ministers, legislators, Indian civil servants and the International Federation of Chess (FIDE) has been set up under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Stalin to oversee the work of the competition.
The torch for the 44th International Chess Olympiad will be lit and flown across the country. Steps have been taken on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu to conduct chess tournaments among students in all schools and colleges to create awareness among the people about the competition. In addition, the International Chess Olympiad will be advertised on buses, trains and in public places to raise public awareness.
Following this, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu unveiled the logo and mascot of the 44th Chess Olympiad, illuminated by colored lights, at a function held at the Stalin Ribbon Building.
Following this, Chief Minister Stalin’s 50th Countdown to the 44th Chess Olympiad began with a video presentation at the Ribbon Building for public viewing. In addition, the Chief Minister received the hashtag #CHESS CHENNAI 2022 from Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, President of the All India Chess Federation.
