Chennai: Chief Minister M.K.Stalin presented a prize of Rs 1 crore each to the Indian B team in the general category and the Indian A team in the women’s category who won bronze medals in the Chess Olympiad.

The 44th International Chess Olympiad at Mamallapuram, next to Chennai, started on July 29 and ended on August 9. More than 2,200 players from 186 countries participated in this tournament. The matches ended the day before yesterday.

Subsequently, the closing ceremony of the Chess Olympiad was held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium yesterday evening with great fanfare. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin awarded gold, silver and bronze medals to the winning teams.

The Tamil Nadu government has successfully completed the 44th International Chess Olympiad to the appreciation of the world. I am extremely happy that in the Chess Olympiad held in India, especially in Tamil Nadu, two teams namely Indian B team in the general category and Indian A team in the women’s category have won medals and have brought pride to the Chess Olympiad and to India.

The Government of Tamil Nadu will give Rs 1 crore as prize money to the Indian B team who won the bronze medal in the general category and the Indian women’s A team who won the bronze medal in the women’s category of the Chess Olympiad. This was stated by the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, chess player Pragnananda from Tamil Nadu met the Chief Minister yesterday and congratulated him on his birthday. The chief minister gave him sweets.

After that, the players of the women’s A team and men’s B team, who won bronze medals in the Chess Olympiad, also met and congratulated the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister felicitated them by handing over the announced prize money of Rs.1 crore to both the teams.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated the Tamil Nadu Government for conducting the Chess Olympiad well. In his Twitter post, he said, ‘The people of Tamil Nadu and the government have conducted the 44th Chess Olympiad very well.
