Many emergency rides can be avoided if the ambulance personnel conduct more research on the patient on site, the Radboudumc found out. Ambulances still transport about 200,000 people with chest pain to the First Heart Aid every year. But in the hospital it subsequently turns out that 80 to 90 percent of these people have no heart problem at all, which prompted cardiologist and lead researcher Cyril Camaro to see whether these people could not be prevented from ending up in hospital.
