Chicago Weekend Shootings: Four Dead and Forty Injured in Recent Gun Violence Spree

Forty people were shot, four fatally, in shootings across Chicago over the weekend, according to police reports. The incidents add to the growing concern over gun violence in the city.

One of the shootings occurred in the West Garfield Park neighborhood early Sunday morning. Five people were shot in a drive-by shooting, with a 40-year-old woman being shot multiple times and pronounced dead at a hospital. The four other victims were taken to various hospitals and are in fair condition. The victims reported that someone in a vehicle shot at them around 2 a.m. No suspects have been apprehended.

Another fatal shooting occurred in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, where a man was shot to death just before 2:30 a.m. No suspects are currently in custody, and the area detectives are actively investigating the case.

In a separate incident on the Near North Side, a 29-year-old man riding a bicycle was shot in the thigh and arm. He was taken to a hospital and is in good condition. The shooting took place around 12:15 a.m. No suspects have been identified yet.

On the Southwest Side, a man was killed in the Gage Park neighborhood. The victim, a 59-year-old man, was shot in the shoulder after two individuals approached him in an alley. He was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Both suspects are still at large.

In Chicago Lawn, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the thigh while in an alley. The incident took place just under an hour earlier. The boy was transported to Christ Medical Center and is said to be in good condition. The shooter remains unidentified.

Earlier in the day, an attempted robbery turned into a shooting in Morgan Park. A 22-year-old man was shot in the chest after refusing to hand over his belongings. The suspect fled the scene, and the victim was taken to a hospital in fair condition. Further details about the incident have not been provided by the police.

On the West Side, a 17-year-old girl was shot in the Garfield Park neighborhood. The teenager reported that someone opened fire at her from a moving vehicle, hitting her twice. She self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital and is expected to recover. No suspects have been apprehended, and the investigation is ongoing.

These incidents come just a week after 27 people were shot, five of whom died, in the city. The rising gun violence rates have sparked concerns among community members and authorities alike.
