Last night (Wednesday, 5/1/22), the Chief of the General Staff, Major General Aviv Kochavi, visited the Haifa base and Rambam Hospital, during which he met the wounded man from the helicopter crash, Captain Ron Birman.

The chief of staff also visited Squadron 3 and the command base of the Haifa base and talked to the commanders. The late Erez Shahanei and the late Major Chen Fogel.
In doing so, it should be noted that the Chief of Staff praised the activities of the Hilmat fighters and commanders and cherished their determination in the mission.
In his meeting with the wounded officer, Captain Ron Birman and his family, the Chief of Staff expressed his great appreciation for the course of action he took, his resourcefulness and the courage he showed in trying to save his comrades during the crash.

As a commander, the first thing you think of in an incident like this is about the casualties, I was very happy to hear that you survived. The manner in which you functioned and your efforts to manage the incident and to try and fully exhaust the rescue of the two pilots are exceptionally appreciated. I have heard your conversation with the focus, seeing that you are in complete control, focused, missionary, know and act. I see what you focus on, how much you care, how human you are and how human you are. I am very proud of you and give a big hug. I share the grief of the families of the late swimmers and the late Fogel. The IDF and I express deep sorrow, identify with the pain and strengthen them in every way. This is a difficult event and we are here to accompany them.
