Udumalai: The construction of a permanent building for the Udumalai Child Development Project continues to drag on as the government departments do not take action.

Anganwadi Centers are functioning under the Integrated Child Development Scheme in the Social Welfare Department. One Child Development Program Officer is appointed per district.

In the main centre, cook and helper, waiter, in the small centre, cook and helpers are also appointed.

In Udumalai, there are 143 Anganwadi Centres. For the centre, the government structure has an office in each district. In Tirupur district, at Udumalai, the project office has been operating in a rented building for a long time.

In Udumalai, the office was shifted to a different place as the building constructed on behalf of the government in Jiva Nagar fell into a dilapidated condition.

Despite repeated requests to repair the building, the welfare department remains silent. Currently, the development planning office has been shifted to a rented building in the city. As Udumalai is a big union, training of employees, consultation meeting, storage of necessary materials for Anganwadi centers is not available in the office, so every time, we have to approach the nearby government schools.

Despite the space in the old building of the municipal office, they ignore the administrative problem as it can only be rented out.

There is no space in any school building in the village panchayats near the city to allocate a building on behalf of the union administration. This will lead to the situation of having to run an office in a remote village.

This problem will be resolved if funds are provided to renovate and use the existing building. But the welfare department is apathetic and the office has to continue to function in a rented building.
