Jacques Brel Quay Closed Due to Safety Concerns
The Jacques Brel Quay, a popular promenade along the Meuse River in Liège, was closed on Saturday due to safety concerns. Large stones along the quay wall had become unstable and some had even fallen into the river, injuring a child.
Access to the quay was immediately restricted and a meeting will be held on Monday, August 12th, with the company responsible for the work to find a permanent solution.
“Closing everything down is not the solution,” said Alexandre Louffet, the acting mayor. “This is a pleasant place for local residents but it needs to be safe.”
The closure is expected to remain in effect until a solution is found. The city is exploring options to separate the playground from the quay to ensure the safety of visitors.
