Jacques Brel Quay Closed Due to Safety Concerns

The Jacques Brel ⁣Quay, a popular promenade ‍along the Meuse River in Liège, was ‍closed on Saturday due to safety concerns. Large stones along the quay wall had become unstable and some had⁣ even fallen into the river, injuring ‍a child.

Access⁢ to the quay was immediately restricted and a meeting will be held on⁣ Monday, August 12th, with ‌the company‍ responsible for the work to find a‍ permanent solution.

“Closing everything down ‍is not the solution,” said Alexandre Louffet, the⁤ acting mayor. “This is a pleasant place for local residents but it needs to be safe.”

The closure is expected to remain in effect until⁣ a ‍solution is ⁢found. The city is exploring options to separate the‌ playground from the quay to ensure ⁣the⁢ safety of visitors.
