With inflation and the Covid, the big fashion brands for children have seen their customers leave for the occasion, on the internet or in consignment sales, to the point that Du similar to the same and Sergent major are in great difficulty.

The clothing crisis continues with two clothing brands struggling. Something similar is in receivership, when Sergeant Major is in safeguard proceedings. In all, 134 stores could be sold or closed. Weakened by the health crisis, the two brands are also suffering from inflation which is changing consumer habits. “I’m waiting for the sales, there everything is at 50%”says a buyer.

Consignment sales are on the rise

Other parents turn away from the new. “I prefer the second hand especially for children who grow up very quickly”, said a mother. The second-hand market competes with the new market, especially on the internet. The various sites specializing in second-hand children’s items display attractive prices. The success of second-hand is also reflected in consignment sales, where you can find clothes twice as cheap as new, which is attracting more and more customers. In 2022, depot sales increased by 5%, with almost one in two families now buying second-hand children’s clothing.
