The former FC Barcelona and Manchester City player ended his career at the age of 41. A legend in Chile, he won two Copa Americas with the national team.
Chile national football goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, 41, announced his retirement from football on Monday in a video posted on social media. “Hello everyone, through this video I would like to tell you that I will leave football”he said in a video on his Instagram account, where he thanked his teammates and the teams he played for, as well as the Chilean national team.
The 150-cap keeper made his debut with Chilean club Colo Colo in 2003, where he would win two league titles. Bravo then moved to Spain in 2006, where he spent most of his career, playing for Real Sociedad, FC Barcelona and Betis Sevilla, his last club.
With Barcelona, he won everything in two seasons, especially when the Catalans won the treble in 2015 (Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League). Within Barça, Bravo went eight games without conceding a goal in La Liga, or 755 minutes, a record for a Barcelona team that still stands.
Departure of the captain
Fierce competition with German Marc-André Ter Stegen however pushed him to pack his bags and join Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in 2016, with whom he won another eight titles, including two in the Premier League.

Bravo was also the leader and the key player of the “golden generation” of the Chilean national team, which won the 2015 and 2016 Copa America, the only titles in its history. The Chilean was an important part of La Roja until recently and even broke the record during the last Copa America that he played in the United States this summer.
During the match against Peru, at the age of 41 years and 77 days, Bravo became the oldest player to play a game in the tournament created in 1916, surpassing the record held in 1977 by the Bolivian goalkeeper Carlos Truco (39 years and 322 days).
