Santiago: Chile legalizes same-sex marriage On Tuesday, the lower house and senate of the country’s parliament voted in favor of the bill. The government’s move comes ahead of Chile’s presidential election this month. The bill will become law within 90 days of its publication in the Official Gazette. Leading LGBT organizations in the country have called the ruling a “historic decision.” Chile’s Minister of Social Development Carla Rubilar has said the country is one step ahead in terms of equal justice.
