Chile registers 154 femicides in 3 years and more than half were committed by a husband or partner

SANTIAGO (AP) — Chile has recorded 154 femicides in the last three years, according to a report from the National Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday, which specified that the majority of these homicides, 52%, were committed by the husband or partner.

The first statistical report on femicides and parricides states that in 2020 there were 47 femicides, in 2021 there were 55 and another 52 last year.

Ana María Morales, manager of studies for the Public Ministry, declared that the world average of femicides is 1.1 per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the United Nations, while Chile stands at 0.5%, “which in any case is worrying”.
