“Everything indicates that she would not have met the requirements for Usach to authorize her to take a sabbatical year with pay,” the opposition accused.

Deputies from Chile Vamos will ask that Comptroller’s Office to investigate the legality of the sabbatical year granted by the University of Santiago (Usach) to Elisa Loncon in 2022, after participating in the Constitutional Convention.

This, after the university finally released the academic background of the former president of the Convention, following a request made by the Council for Transparency and which was ratified by Justice.

However, UDI deputies Felipe Donoso and Sergio Bobadilla appealed to the controlling body, since The Usach establishes the sabbatical year for those teachers who prove complete or uninterrupted work for at least six years.

Given this, the legislators specified that Elisa Loncon began her work at the university in 2018 and interrupted it after joining the Constitutional Convention in 2021.

“Everything indicates that she would not have met the requirements for the Usach to authorize her to take a sabbatical year with pay, and since it is very likely that there are public resources compromised, it is essential that the Comptroller’s Office initiate the corresponding investigations,” they accused.

Along these lines, they urged Elisa Loncon to make transparent the process carried out to be able to access this benefit.

“It is difficult to understand that those who dressed as defenders of free, quality education are today taking advantage of the system to benefit personally. Here, clearly, the former constituent did not meet the requirements to be authorized to take a paid sabbatical. Therefore, we hope that the Comptroller’s Office will rule on the matter, open the necessary summaries and sanction those who correspond,” they argued.

For her part, deputy Marcia Raphael (RN) declared that “we hope that in light of the new antecedents it will be confirmed that indeed There was no degree of relaxation in giving this sabbatical to Mrs. Loncón, which would undoubtedly leave teachers at a disadvantage who have effectively met the requirements but have not been able to obtain such an important benefit.”
