The first iconic wine of the Chilean industry, Don Melchor, begins its tour of the main markets of the world, to celebrate the anniversary of its 35th harvest: Don Melchor 2021, a wine that today, after five decades, continues to reflect the unique expression of its origin in the acclaimed Puente Alto designation of origin.

Viña Don Melchor, a subsidiary of the Viña Concha y Toro holding company, begins its roadshow global: “Don Melchor 2021: Celebrating its 35th harvest” in its main markets, which will be led by its CEO and Technical Director, Enrique Tirado; accompanied by the Vice President of Wines of Viña Concha y Toro, Isabel Guilisasti.

The inaugural event of this tour took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil, considered one of the most relevant markets for the brand and where Don Melchor has been present since its first harvest: 1987. During all these years, Don Melchor has managed to establish itself as one of the most prestigious and influential luxury wine brands among Brazilian consumers.

For this second semester, the tour includes the markets of the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Chile in America; China, South Korea, among other countries in Asia; and finally England and the Nordic countries in Europe.

“Being able to celebrate this new milestone in the history of Don Melchor fills me with emotion and joy, as I have witnessed the development that the markets have had and how, alongside Don Melchor, they have become more consolidated every day. Today, being able to celebrate in each of the key markets for this wine allows us to confirm the consistency over all these years in the exceptional quality of Don Melchor and its great terroir in Puente Alto,” says Enrique Tirado.

The new 2021 vintage of Don Melchor, which today celebrates its 35th harvest, is composed 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot, and spent 15 months in French oak barrels, 68% new and 32% second use.

“This new vintage of Don Melchor undoubtedly shows us the great potential that our unique terroir in the Puente Alto appellation of origin has achieved. Don Melchor 2021, while being a true reflection of exceptional climatic conditions and precise agroecological management, demonstrates the maturity and excellence of an entire team committed to making a world-class wine. The wine shows the very unique expression of Puente Alto, immediately revealing the perfect balance between energy and finesse in its aromas and flavors.” comments Enrique Tirado.

“We are proud to celebrate 35 vintages with Don Melchor, a wine that has not only brought great satisfaction to the company, but has also achieved unrivaled global prestige thanks to its constant search for excellence, and for allowing us to be the custodians of one of the best terroirs for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon in the world. I have witnessed the position that Don Melchor has achieved in the international market, where without a doubt, it has been responsible for carrying on its shoulders the great objective of positioning Chile as a producer of high-end wines, a task that it has managed to accomplish with flying colors. Proof of this was that with its second vintage, 1988, it became the first Chilean wine to be included in the list of the best 100 wines in the world in the prestigious global ranking of Wine Spectator,” says Isabel Guilisasti.

This new milestone in the history of Don Melchor, with the launch of its 35th vintage, reaffirms its position as a consolidated brand with global reach, which has managed since its first harvest to deliver the best of Puente Alto Cabernet Sauvignon in every glass of wine around the world.
