The projects launched by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, have attracted the attention of Chinese and African officials, particularly those related to regional integration and sustainable development in Africa, Mr. Akhannouch, who represents His Majesty King Mohammed VI at this Summit held from September 4 to 6 in Beijing, told the press.

During this flagship event, Morocco highlighted the various initiatives it has launched in favor of the African continent in various fields, said Mr. Akhannouch, citing in particular the International Initiative of HM King Mohammed VI aimed at promoting access of Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean.

This major African project launched by Morocco is capable of creating a relevant and effective partnership space between Morocco, China and Africa, observed the Head of Government.

Furthermore, he noted that Morocco also expressed, during this Summit, its willingness to actively engage in various programs of common interest for the African continent and China, linked in particular to infrastructure, agriculture, education and health.

Mr. Akhannouch stressed that the projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, were highly praised by Chinese and African officials during this Summit.

In this regard, he noted that the ten action plans on cooperation with Africa, announced by Chinese President Xi Jingping during the opening ceremony of FOCAC, are in line with the programs launched by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, in favor of the African continent.

Mr. Akhannouch also welcomed the meetings held with Chinese officials, noting that the Sovereign’s visit to the People’s Republic of China in May 2016 gave a strong boost to relations between the two countries, following the signing of the bilateral strategic partnership.

In this regard, the Head of Government expressed the Kingdom’s desire to further consolidate its fruitful and strategic cooperation with China, particularly within the framework of the triangular and multidimensional partnership between Morocco, China and Africa.

The Moroccan delegation to this Summit is composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, Mohcine Jazouli, the Ambassador Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), Mohamed Methqal, the Ambassador of the Kingdom in Beijing, Abdelkader El Ansari, as well as the President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), Chakib Alj.

The 2024 FOCAC agenda included four high-level meetings on state governance, industrialization and agricultural modernization, peace and security, and high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, in addition to a Chinese-African Business Leaders’ Conference.

FOCAC, which celebrates its 24th anniversary this year, constitutes a partnership of choice between China and the African continent, based on the cardinal principles of solidarity, cooperation and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.

Established in October 2000 in Beijing, FOCAC is China’s oldest regional forum. The mechanism gained prominence in 2006, when Beijing announced the creation of a $5 billion China-Africa development fund.
