A Chinese hacking group known as Volt Typhoon is attacking internet companies in the US and India using a security flaw in the software of California-based startup Versa Networks. This means that this is going to be a warning signal for Indian companies as well. In such a situation, you should also be alert about this immediately. Continuous work is also being done on internet service. Bloomberg has claimed this in its report.

According to a Bloomberg report, security researchers at Lumen Technologies’ Black Lotus Labs said that Volt Typhoon exploited this vulnerability to breach four US companies, including internet service providers, and one Indian company.

The flaw was found in Versa Networks’ software, which helps manage network configurations. Versa identified the bug in June 2023 and released a patch to fix it, but it seems that not all companies applied the patch in time, leaving them vulnerable to the attack. The hacking campaign is believed to be still ongoing.

The US government has been keeping an eye on this group for a long time. The US has previously leveled several serious allegations against this group and said that this group has caused disruption to the essential infrastructure of America. Its connection with Taiwan was also reported. The Chinese government has denied these allegations and claimed that Volt Typhoon is actually a criminal group called “Dark Power” and has no connection to China. He also suggested that US intelligence agencies are falsely blaming China for these cyber attacks to justify increased budgets and government contracts.
