New Delhi : People have started coming to the model villages built by China near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). According to sources, people have started living in many villages now. China started building such model villages near the LAC about six years ago and these were empty for a long time. India has constantly expressed the fear that China can make dual use of these villages. According to sources, one of the objectives of China is to keep an eye on the Tibetans. Also, if needed, it can also use them for military purposes. According to sources, in the last few years, China has built many underground storages on the other side of the LAC. China also has bunkers here but most of the work has been done to build underground storages.
China is building Jiakong Village
According to defense sources, in the Eastern Sector itself, China has to build about 630 model villages on the other side of the LAC, out of which work has been completed on about 500 villages. China calls it Jiakong Village. Which means prosperous village. China has about 145 model villages on the other side of the LAC in Eastern Arunachal itself. Now China is focusing on infrastructure like storage facilities on the other side of the LAC. In October 2021, China passed a new land border law which was implemented from January 1, 2022. Under this land border law, China is settling its common citizens in the border areas.
People started living in model village
According to sources, people have started living in these model villages which were empty till now. People are now visible in many villages. Sources say that China always fears that the Tibetans living near the LAC may share information with the Indian Army and the Tibetan villages there are located at different places and hence it is difficult to keep an eye on them as to who is coming or going where.
Defence sources believe that one of the purposes of these model villages is to keep an eye on the Tibetans. By shifting Tibetans from their original villages to such model villages, China can also keep an eye on them. Also, if needed, they can be used for military purposes as well. However, according to an army officer, these can be easy targets in case of war because they are in visual range (i.e. so far that we can keep an eye on them from our side). Observation towers have also been noticed around these villages.
