Washington must demonstrate that it does not support secessionist forces in Taiwan and stop supplying arms to the island. Zhu Fenglian, a representative of the Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China for Taiwan Affairs, stated this at a briefing, commenting on the approval by the Senate of the US Congress of a bill on military assistance to Taiwan, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
“We call on the United States to take concrete action to fulfill its commitment not to support Taiwan’s independence and to stop arming the island in any way,” Zhu Fenglian said.
She said the bill seriously violates the “one China” principle, the three joint communiqués between China and the United States, and sends the wrong message to pro-Taiwan separatist forces. “We strongly oppose it,” Zhu Fenglian said. The Taiwan issue is solely China’s internal matter and does not tolerate any outside interference, she stressed.
She said most Taiwanese want peace, development, exchanges and cooperation, not war, recession, division and confrontation. Zhu Fenglian pointed out that the ruling Taiwanese party “ignores public opinion and is ready to become a pawn of external forces to contain China.” The representative of the office emphasized that any attempts by the separatists to achieve independence by force or relying on external forces are doomed to failure.
