China confirms 15 more cases of COVID-19 among Olympics arrivals

15 people who arrived at the Beijing Olympics have tested positive for coronavirus, Reuters reports citing the organizing committee of the Olympic Games. Most of the patients are workers. One infected person is an athlete or an official representative of one of the teams, his name is not given.

According to the organizing committee, 12 cases of COVID-19 were detected among newcomers to the Olympic Games. Three more cases of infection were registered among those who were already in Beijing.

The Olympics are scheduled to take place on February 4-20. On the eve of the Games, Beijing authorities have ordered residents to be tested for coronavirus. Due to the pandemic, foreign spectators will not be allowed to compete. Amid the spread of the omicron strain, the organizing committee also stopped ticket sales for spectators from mainland China.
