China did not support the disconnection of Russia from SWIFT

China does not approve of the use of sanctions as a means to resolve conflicts, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a briefing on Monday. So he answered the question of whether China supports the decision of Western countries to introduce restrictions that involve disconnecting some Russian banks from SWIFT.

“China does not support the use of sanctions to solve problems, and even more so opposes unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law,” Mr. Wang said during a daily briefing (quoted by RIA Novosti).

Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry, in connection with the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, which became the reason for the imposition of sanctions by the West, spoke in defense of the sovereignty of all countries, and also called for taking into account Russia’s requirements for security guarantees. On February 26, Beijing abstained during a vote in the UN Security Council on a resolution by a number of countries condemning Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
