Taiwan became a separate country after the last civil war in China in 1949. Yet the Chinese government, led by President Jinping, has been claiming Taiwan as an integral part of their country.
China has also said it will not hesitate to use force to capture Taiwan if need be. In addition, Chinese warplanes routinely infiltrate and threaten Taiwan’s airspace from time to time.
President Joe Biden has said that the United States will protect Taiwan if China invades Taiwan.
When asked by Joe Biden if the United States would intervene militarily against the Chinese attempt to forcibly take control of Taiwan, he said, “That is our decision.”
He further added that “China is playing with danger. We have agreed to sign the ‘One China’ policy, but the idea that it could be captured by Taiwanese forces is not appropriate.”
