China Grounds Warplanes and Submarines as US Treasury Secretary Visits Taiwan

BEIJING – China has grounded warplanes and submarines in Taiwan’s sea and airspace as US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visits China.

After the civil war in our neighbor China in 1949, Taiwan became a separate country. However, the Chinese government, led by President Xi Jinping, celebrates Taiwan as an integral part of their country.

“If necessary, we will not hesitate to use force to seize Taiwan,” China has warned. Similarly, China has routinely sent warplanes and ships to threaten Taiwan’s air and sea borders. China is also opposed to any other country having official relations with Taiwan.

While the United States is saying that Taiwan should be allowed to function as an independent country, Janet Yellen, the finance minister of the country, went on a four-day official visit to China. The trip has also been undertaken in view of the trade disputes between the two countries.

In this case, following Janet’s visit, as usual, the Chinese military has accumulated warplanes and ships in Taiwan’s air and sea borders yesterday. Regarding this, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense said: “Four Chinese aircraft, two SUs, 30 fighter jets, PZK 005 reconnaissance aircraft, and Y 8 anti-submarine warfare aircraft have crossed the demarcation line of the Taiwan Strait. We are closely monitoring the situation at sea, air, and land surfaces. Missiles are ready to retaliate if needed.”

Meanwhile, Chinese media reported that President Xi Jinping recently visited the headquarters of the Chinese army in the Taiwan border area, held discussions with the army commanders on combat training, and ordered to increase the capabilities of the forces.
