In view of the rapid aging of the population, China⁤ will make more efforts to increase the consumption of services for⁣ the elderly and improve their quality of life, ‌the ⁣Ministry of‌ Civil Affairs announced, Radio China reports.

Together with the Department of Commerce and 22 other government ⁣departments, it issued a‌ set of new support measures that call ​for​ efforts to ‌expand the provision of services for older people,‌ particularly ⁢in rural areas, in line with public demand.

The‍ document states that it supports ‍the‍ integrated development of​ elderly care services in the ⁢property management, household, health, culture, tourism, sports and ⁢education ⁢sectors. In addition, October has been ⁤declared a month to promote the consumption⁤ of ‌services for the elderly.

Official statistics show that in 2023, 297 million Chinese were​ aged 60 and over, accounting ⁢for 21.1% of the total population.
