In view of the rapid aging of the population, China will make more efforts to increase the consumption of services for the elderly and improve their quality of life, the Ministry of Civil Affairs announced, Radio China reports.
Together with the Department of Commerce and 22 other government departments, it issued a set of new support measures that call for efforts to expand the provision of services for older people, particularly in rural areas, in line with public demand.
The document states that it supports the integrated development of elderly care services in the property management, household, health, culture, tourism, sports and education sectors. In addition, October has been declared a month to promote the consumption of services for the elderly.
Official statistics show that in 2023, 297 million Chinese were aged 60 and over, accounting for 21.1% of the total population.
