China has reacted strongly to US President Joe Biden’s statement that the US will defend Taiwan if China launches an attack.

The Taiwan Controversy
Joe Biden, who responded to the question raised by American soldiers whether they would defend Taiwan in an interview given to CBS television, said that the United States would defend Taiwan if an unprecedented attack was launched.
The White House has also said there is no change in US policy. In particular, the United States has stated that it accepts the one-China policy and that Taiwan is part of China, but has indicated that Taiwan must have the means to defend itself.

In this situation, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed strong opposition to Joe Biden’s comments and said that China has the right to take all necessary measures in response to activities that divide the nation.
China’s position
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said that while China will make every effort to promote peaceful reunification, it will not tolerate any measures aimed at secession.
Meanwhile, Taiwan has responded to the US President’s comments and said that it welcomes the strong security commitment of the US to its country.
Taiwan has also indicated that it will continue to deepen its close defense partnership with Washington.
