China, January-February industrial production soars: + 35.1%

The industrial production and the retail sales they fly to China in the first two months of the year. The record year-over-year increase is mainly due to the paralysis of the Chinese economy in early 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In particular, the industrial production of the Asian giant grew by 35,1% in January-February 2021 compared to the same months of 2020, while retail sales, the main indicator of consumption, increased by 33,8%, according to data released Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics. It is about the biggest increases in decades for the second world economy. The appearance of the Covid-19 at the end of 2019 in China, on January 23, 2020, it led to the quarantine of the Wuhan metropolis, in the center of the country, and therefore to the paralysis of a large part of the economy. The production of Chinese factories had decreased by 13.5% in the period January-February 2020 in one year. The activity then resumed in the spring of 2020 and China recorded one of the only growths in the gross domestic product of the main world economies during the whole of last year (+ 2.3%).
