China prohibits its operators in sectors ranging from telecoms to transport to finance from working with the American giant of the sector Micron Technology. The Chinese cyberspace regulator believes that the American company’s semiconductors have serious security flaws.

Micron Technology’s semiconductors pose potential problems for network security, which could compromise national defense, Beijing said.

The authorities are therefore calling on Chinese companies working on sensitive data to stop buying its electronic chips. A blow for the American group. China represents, in fact, 11% of the manufacturer’s sales

It’s a new episode in the war between Washington and Beijing, over semiconductors. In the name of national security, Washington has been limiting, for nearly a year, exports to China of chips of American origin, or of the machines used to manufacture them.

President Joe Biden has also launched a $50 billion plan to relocate semiconductor production to American soil.

It’s not just microchips in the sights of the Chinese administration. Other companies in the consulting sector are targeted by Beijing, which wants to verify that they do not involve hidden risks for national defense.
