Beijing: China has revised the women’s protection law for the first time in 30 years. The law has been amended to provide greater protection against gender discrimination and sexual harassment. The law has been passed after three review meetings seeking feedback from the people.

Social activists have long been calling for the revision of outdated women’s protection laws.

At the same time, it is not clear to what extent the conservative stance of the administration has been reflected in the law as the details of the law are not available now.

The Chinese Parliament has passed a bill titled ‘Law for the Protection of Women’s Rights and Interests’. The Chinese parliament said tens of thousands of people had submitted comments on the law.

Official news agency Xinhua reported that the new law protects the rights and interests of poor women, elderly women and women with disabilities.

Employers will be held responsible if women’s labor and social security rights are violated. The report also states that preventing the rescue of women who are trafficked and abducted is considered a crime.
