China has made its second major incursion into Taiwan’s air defense zone this year, as Taiwan has indicated it plans to improve security ties with the United States.

Taiwan says it has stopped its warplanes to alert and block 30 warplanes sent by China into its air defense zone southwest. According to a map provided by the Ministry of Defense, the Chinese plane flew over an area northeast of the Pradas Islands, part of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone.

The latest incursions involved 22 warplanes, electronic warfare equipment and anti-submarine aircraft, the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense said.

This comes just days after US President Joe Biden warned China not to invade Taiwan. On the same day, a US official traveled to Taiwan to discuss security with Taiwanese leaders.

China and Taiwan split during the Civil War in the 1940s. But China said at some point it would rejoin it. It also said it would do so by force if necessary.
